The Love of God II

1

The love of God has been extended

To a fallen race

Through Christ the savior of all men

There's hope in saving grace

REFRAIN:

The love of God is greater far

Than gold or silver ever could afford

It reaches past the highest star

And covers all the world

Its power is eternal

Its glory is supernal

When all this earth shall pass away

There'll always be the love of God

2

It goes beneath the deepest stain

That sin could ever leave

Redeeming souls to live again

Who will on Christ believe

REFRAIN:

The love of God is greater far

Than gold or silver ever could afford

It reaches past the highest star

And covers all the world

Its power is eternal

Its glory is supernal

When all this earth shall pass away

There'll always be the love of God

Author's note: This version was written by David Phelps, of the Gaither Vocal Band. While it is musically beautiful, sadly, it clearly illustrates the difference between classic hymn lyrics -- which are rich with Biblical context and mastery of the English language -- and inferior contemporary expressions of the same concepts. This is essentially a contemporary imitation of the original hymn.
