Standing On the Promises

 1

Standing on the promises of Christ my King,

Through eternal ages let His praises ring,

Glory in the highest, I will shout and sing,

Standing on the promises of God.

2

Standing on the promises that cannot fail,

When the howling storms of doubt and fear assail,

By the living Word of God I shall prevail,

Standing on the promises of God.

3

Standing on the promises of Christ the Lord,

Bound to Him eternally by love’s strong cord,

Overcoming daily with the Spirit’s sword,

Standing on the promises of God.

4

Standing on the promises I cannot fall,

List’ning every moment to the Spirit’s call.

Resting in my Savior as my All in All,

Standing on the promises of God.

REFRAIN

Standing, standing,

Standing on the promises of God my Savior;

Standing, standing,

I’m standing on the promises of God.

Lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen. ~Matthew 28:20

 "By the living word of God I shall prevail"   Hebrews 4:12  For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

 "Overcoming daily by the Spirit's sword"   Ephesians 6:17  And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

"List'ning every moment to the Spirit's call"   John 14:26  But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

* * *

 What are the promises of God? According to one source I found in a Google search, there are 7000 promises of God in the Bible. (It was a video, and I didn't watch it -- I was looking for a printed source.) Of course, the Bible is full of God's promises from cover to cover, far too many to include here. So I am going to pick and choose just a few of them.

 Isaiah 41:10

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

James 1:5

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.

John 3:16

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Philippians 4:19

And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.

Psalm 50:15

Call on me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor me.

Matthew 6:31–33

So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

Mark 11:24

Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

* * *

 [Here's a little dilemma that I struggle with -- and maybe I'm not the only one: We know that our prayers are NOT always answered. Not in the way we want them to be, anyway. Why is that? There are two verses that I can think of that give us some answers:]

Isaiah 55:8-9

For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

Romans 8:28

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

 [Like a good parent, God works all things together for our good -- which is not always the same thing as what we would like to have happen. When bad things happen to us, and we don't understand why, we have to remember that God promised to be with us at all times.]

Isaiah 43:2

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.
