On the Wings of a Dove

1

When troubles surround us

When evils come

The body grows weak

The spirit grows numb

When these things beset us

He doesn't forget us

He sends down His love

On the wings of a dove

2

When Noah had drifted

On the flood many days

He searched for land

In various ways

Troubles, he had some

But wasn't forgotten

He sent him His love

On the wings of a dove

3

When Jesus went down

to the waters that day

He was baptized in the usual way

When it was done

God blessed his Son

He sent him his love

On the wings of a dove

CHORUS

On the wings of a snow-white dove

He sends His pure sweet love

A sign from above

On the wings of a dove

Songwriters: Bob Ferguson

Ferlin Husky was the main performer of this song, in its day. But I found another singer whose rendition I like a lot better.

GENESIS 8

6 And it came to pass at the end of forty days, that Noah opened the window of the ark which he had made: 7 And he sent forth a raven, which went forth to and fro, until the waters were dried up from off the earth. 8 Also he sent forth a dove from him, to see if the waters were abated from off the face of the ground; 9 But the dove found no rest for the sole of her foot, and she returned unto him into the ark, for the waters were on the face of the whole earth: then he put forth his hand, and took her, and pulled her in unto him into the ark. 10 And he stayed yet other seven days; and again he sent forth the dove out of the ark; 11 And the dove came in to him in the evening; and, lo, in her mouth was an olive leaf pluckt off: so Noah knew that the waters were abated from off the earth. 12 And he stayed yet other seven days; and sent forth the dove; which returned not again unto him any more. 13 And it came to pass in the six hundredth and first year, in the first month, the first day of the month, the waters were dried up from off the earth: and Noah removed the covering of the ark, and looked, and, behold, the face of the ground was dry.

MATTHEW 3

13 Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him. 14 But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me? 15 And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him. 16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: 17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
